The world's largest producer of gadgets increases salaries by 16-25%

Foxconn Technology Group, the largest manufacturer of gadgets in the world - which assembles products such as Apple iPad tablet with the approximately one million employees, has increased - for the third time from 2010 - salaries, with amounts ranging between 16 and 25 percent, according to Bloomberg. With this increase, applicable from 1 February, the basic salary of a beginner worker at Foxconn rose to 1,800 yuan ($ 290) compared to 900 yuan three years ago.
Workers who pass a series of technical examinations will receive salaries of more than 2,200 yuan, the company said. Company's announcement comes in the context of a series of articles published by daily New York Times revealed the harsh conditions of work, the major risks to which employees are subjected by working with various hazardous substances and low wages. There have been cases where employees have even committed suicide.
After being accused of ignoring the information it holds about inhumane working conditions from Foxconn factories, Apple has approved an independent organization to conduct an audit of working conditions. The initial findings of the Fair Labor Association organization after several days of examination is that at factories are "tons of problems" that must be solved.
