Year 2012 brings new DDR3 memory kits from G.Skill, the new low profile range Ares (or normal if we take the standards a few years ago). We have a lot of these memories, with frequencies of 1333 MHz, 1600 MHz, 1866 MHz and respectively 2133 MHz, all aluminum radiator cooled, on orange or blue.
Capacities ranging from 8GB to 32GB, and the voltage is generally 1.5 V, except 2133 MHz kits that require 1.6 V or 1.65 V. More specifically, at 1333 MHz we find latent 24-9-9-9 and we have two dual channel kits for 8 GB and 16 GB, and two quad channel 16 GB and 32 GB.
Moving to 1600 MHz have three different latent: 30-10-10-10 (dual channel of 16 GB and quad channel of 32 GB), 24-9-9-9 (Dual Channel 8 GB and 16 GB quad channel ) and 24-8-8-8 (dual channel8 GB and quad channel 16 GB). At 1866 MHz we have two levels of performance: 30-10-11-10 (dual channel 16 GB and quad channel 32 GB) and 28-9-10-9 (dual channel 8 GB and quad channel 16 GB).
Every Ares memory kit is hand-tested with G.Skill rigorous internal validation process to ensure the maximum stability and compatibility with both Intel and AMD platforms. Furthermore, with XMP certification (Extreme Memory Profile), hardcore gamers and overclockers can fully let themselves loose upon Intel-based motherboards.
Of course, there is nothing stopping people from pairing the Ares with an AMD platform too.
Low profile memory is usually designed for small form factor PCs, like HTPCs and such, but there are other reasons one may select it. It may be that the PC's main unit has a large enough CPU cooler that normal modules don't fit, or perhaps the case is just short on space.
