Marilyn Monroe has official Twitter account. Tuesday night @marilynmonroe account became active on social network.

  18 months ago, a marketing firm specializing in intellectual property rights, Authentic Brands Group, bought the rights to use Marilyn Monroe brand for $ 20 million dollars, according to CNN Money.

  "We picked the person who handles our social media to tweet for the estate now," said Nick Woodhouse, chief marketing officer at Authentic Brands Group. "Over the next few months, we'll figure out our strategy to make sure we're properly representing who Marilyn is."

  Marilyn Monroe's account on Twitter has already added 3,000 friends and has 153 tweets, being already validated on Twiter.

  Social network validated accounts of celebrities such as Elvis Presley (50,000 friends on its account), Michael Jackson (600,000 friends) and family of Bob Marley (150,000 followers).

  George Harrison and Jimi Hendrix have not yet received the company's stamp of authenticity.

  Besides Twitter, Marilyn Monroe is "present" on Facebook with 2 million likes. Authentic Brands Group, which created celebrities accounts expect it to become a profitable social media strategy. "We'll be tweeting with other celebrities soon," said Woodhouse. "We're going to be aggressive about our social media strategy, because fans want her legacy to live on."
