Apple Blocking Unauthorized Use of Siri
by Xavier Mory (16 Feb 2012)
Apple continues its battle with hackers who want to provide Siri application and to other gadgets, aside from only approved by Apple: iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
Apple is now reaching beyond the realm of protecting the integrity of their mobile operating system to defend their iPhone 4S-exclusive personal assistant: Siri. Until today, non-iPhone 4S users were able to use Siri by means of Spire (a Jailbreak tweak that requires access to a remote server loaded with iPhone 4S keys to trick Apple's server and allow the unsupported device to use the personal assistant).
iDownloadBlog's Jeff Benjamin now reports that Apple may have started clamping on such hacks. He writes:
"Apparently, Apple has altered its requirements for a successful Siri connection, adding a new token to the mix that has caused problems for those who connect to a 3rd party Siri server on non-iPhone 4S devices. According to Twitter and various other reports, Apple has added a new SetActivationToken to the mix, and this has caused issues for those trying to use 3rd party servers."
After introducing the need for a Live ID token to access Siri from iPhone 4S, Apple continues the series of additional security measures to deter any Siri hacking, according to Geek.
Virtual-wizard based on voice control received additional security measure, which can cause problems those which run Siri from a proxy, using the free application Spire from Cydia jailbreak apps store.
